Guards with rifles were a fact of  every day life at the Fort. Planting, milking, going for water and even children playing outside the fort walls - all were well guarded against the ever present threat of Indian attack.

Shawnee Indians under Chief Blackfish (above) came to the fort in September 1778.

They asked to speak with Daniel Boone. (below)
