Re-Enactors Visit North Vernon Elementary

Photos by Jim Cummings

On Thursday November 2, 2006 Re-Enactors paid a special visit to North Vernon Elementary in North Vernon, Indiana.

Re-Enactors Jim Cummings, Kathy Cummings, Melanie Kuntz and (parent) Jay Kell.

North Vernon students, Morgan and Samantha Kell.are experienced re-enactors who also participated in the demonstrations given to their class mates.

Melanie Kuntz portrays Ann McGinty who is recorded as having brought the first spinning wheel over the mountains and into the Kentucky frontier.

Students listen to her story as Jay Kell (George Girty) and Jim (Fortesque) Cummings look on.

The group poses for a final photo before the students enter the library. The presentation was given twice to several classes. Pictured behind the group was the ``hands on" display that all the children got to view after the presentations.

Photographer Jim Cummings sits behind albums of his photos. The children were able to view photos of varoius re-enactment while slides also ran on the library's DVD system.

Cummings feels strongly that it is our responsibility as living historians to educate the public about the history that we re-enact.
