Perryville Cannon Certification

April 2nd 2005

Photos by Jim Cummings

Rainy, cold  and windy are the words that come to mind for the weather on Saturday April 2, 2005. Although numerous cannon crews from various eras were on hand at the Perryville Historical Battlefield in Perryville, Kentucky the atmosphere was pretty universal - miserable.

The cannon and their crews were moved into the shelter. As crews took turns at their stations others lounged around the picnic tables or huddled near the fireplace.

But those that weren't frightened off by the weather were all serious business. Although last year everyone seemed to sport period correct clothing - from 18th century to Civil War, this year was a hodgepodge of period clothing and 21st century rain and cold gear.

The cannon certification was sponsored by The Civil War Artillery Association. Keith G. Karchner was the primary instructor.
